The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club provides low to no-cost programs for local youth, ages 6-15. These include an after school program, where students from ten different Catawba County and Hickory City schools are brought to The Salvation Army to participate. The after school program provides enrichment opportunities, ranging from learning life skills, character building, and physical activities. Sports programs, serving men and women ages 8-18 through basketball, tackle football, and flag football have recently been added.

Allocated $30,000 for subsidies for the after-school and summer programs.

The Partnership for Children Parents as Teachers program is a literacy-based, evidence-based home visitation program for parents and caregivers of children, birth to age 5. Enrolled families have displayed at least two risk factors that may impact their ability to nurture and parent their children. 

Allocated $25,000 to support the staffing needs of the program.

Patrick Beaver Learning Center provides tutoring through the Hickory Augustine Literacy Program to improve the reading, writing and spelling abilities of  children from low-income families who struggle with literacy skills - grades K-3.

Allocated $15,000 to the program for general operation of the program and educational materials for tutors and their students.

The Sipes Orchard Home transitional living program offers a supportive, residential, co-ed program for homeless, disadvantaged youth, providing them tools and opportunities to learn and practice successful independence.  This program is designed for individuals seventeen to twenty-one who do not have the financial, academic, emotional, or behavioral skills necessary for independent living.

Allocated $25,000 to provide a transitional housing program for ages 16-21.

The COA's mentoring program serves middle school aged youth who are identified as potentially "at-risk" for dropping out of school. It provides students with group activities and positive adult role models who meet with them on a regular (weekly), planned basis for an entire school year. 

Allocated $25,000 to support the program.

The COA's Healthy Youth Education Program serves adolescents in Catawba County Schools (grades 6 - 9), Hickory Public Schools (grades 5 - 9) and several private schools (grades 5 - 9), teaching youth about making healthy choices, bullying, future goals, healthy relationships, internet/social media safety, nutrition, peer pressure, puberty, reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, sexual violence, teen pregnancy, setting boundaries, consent, and avoiding risky behaviors.

Allocated $38,000 to provide healthy youth education programs for teens.

Adult Life Programs provides adult day services and to disabled and elderly citizens in three facilities located in Catawba County (Conover, Hickory, and Maiden). The program often prevents premature institutionalization and offers caregivers needed respite during the day. It provides individual and group activities, socialization, community-based outings, and specialized care for people with physical or functional impairments, cognitive impairments, mental illness, developmental disabilities and social isolation.

Allocated $35,000 for adult day care program to provide subsidies for adult day care.

The mission of Catawba County DSS Senior Nutrition Services is to improve the quality of life of seniors by providing them the choice to remain at home through the provision of nutritious meals, education, socialization, health and wellness activities and community volunteer support. These services include Meals on Wheels, the frozen meal program and Seniors Morning Out. 

Allocated $25,000 for senior nutrition services.

The Red Cross emergency services program provides lifesaving education through Health & Safety and Disaster service departments. Continually responds to local disasters such as house fires and provide immediate services for those families as well as deploy local volunteers to assist with disasters wherever needed. Provides services to military families through Service to Armed Forces programs. 

Allocated $12,000 for emergency/disaster services.

The Exodus Homes Medically Assisted Recovery program serves homeless recovering people referred from local detox programs, the Catawba County jail, Catawba Correctional Center or other state/local jails where inmates from this area are returning to Catawba County and it has been clinically recommended that they participate in a Medically Assisted Recovery program to recover from opiate addiction. 

Allocated $34,000 for the Medically Assisted Treatment program for opiate addictions.

The CAPC ensures children who suffer from sexual and or physical abuse receive a medical exam
by an experienced provider in an environment that does not evoke additional trauma.

Allocated $15,000 to offset the cost of the Child Medical Exam program.

Exodus Homes has a comprehensive array of services to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our residents. 

Allocated $26,000 to assist with housing and transportation costs.

The Habitat for Humanity Habitat Repairs program provides repair services to families in need that meet the income eligibility requirements, based on house size and monthly/annual gross income.
